Garage Division

The Garage Division has four (4)) employees whose overall purpose and mission is to provide maintenance and repair service and to dispense fuel, oil and other parts and supplies to the city's 100+ vehicle fleet.

Street Division

The Street Division has eleven (11) employees whose overall purpose and mission is to provide general maintenance of streets, curbs, gutter, sidewalks, storm drains and ditches and maintenance of city owned right of ways.

In addition, this division has two (2) employees who sweep city streets (with curb and gutter) and install street signs and traffic regulatory signs. (Street Sweeping Schedule)

The Street Division is responsible for maintaining over seventy-five (75) miles of City and State streets within our city limits by performing such work as pothole/pavement/utility cut repair,  driveway pipe and storm drain repair/installation. The Street Division is also responsible for the cutting of roadside grass and certain rights-of-way.

Some of the special tasks that are performed by the Street Division include:

1. Perform snow and ice removal for the entire street system. Henderson is one of a select number of cities in our population group that regularly remove snow and ice from all city streets. A more typical approach is to clear just the most traveled streets. When necessary, this service is rendered around the clock.
2. Lend hauling and related support to other city departments when needed (haul dirt, rock, trash, etc.).
3. Work with the Police and Fire Departments to barricade streets for numerous special events (Christmas and St. Patrick's Day Parades etc.).
4. Schedule an on-call employee after normal working hours, on weekends and holidays for dispatch as needed.
5. Maintain and/or repair all traffic signals within the city limits except for signals on state (NCDOT) owned and maintained roadways.
