Fair Housing - Its Your Right!
As a Community Development Block Grant recipient, the City of
Henderson is obligated under the Federal Fair Housing Act (Title VIII of the Civil
Rights Act of 1968, amended by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 and the
NC Fair Housing Act, G.S. Chap. 41A) to educate its citizens with regard to the Fair
Housing Act and to serve as a promoter of the Act. Through the CDBG Program and other
community development activities the City strives to provide decent, safe, and sanitary
housing for all it residents, as well as, encourages fair housing. Fair housing means you
may freely choose a place to live without regard to your race, color, religion, sex,
national origin or because you are disabled, have children in your family, or sexual
harassment. Housing discrimination is illegal.

the hearing impaired. The NC Human Relations Commission will investigate and resolve your
complaint. In the event your complaint cannot be resolved at the State level, it will be
referred to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (1-800-927-9777 or
